Peter Chalos

Over the past 23 years, Peter Chalos has experienced firsthand growth of the College of Business Administration. A professor at UIC since 1985, he has seen myriad changes. As he assumes the role of department head of accounting, he is ready to continue that momentum and to bring the department and college to greater prominence in Chicago.

"The tremendous opportunities that Chicago offers enable both faculty and students to foster and develop mutually beneficial relationships with the business community," says Chalos, who is working to make the Chicago business community more accessible to students. "We are excited about opportunities in accounting and business to raise additional funds for scholarships, research and chairs, all of which will help faculty and students achieve their goals."

C halos's long tenure gives him the personal knowledge to leverage the department's strengths. "Our department's greatest strength is its people-our faculty and our alumni," he says. "We have a good balance between seasoned professors with national academic reputations and new faculty members full of potential. These new members will assume the mantle of responsibility of the department."

Chalos knows that students are the most essential part of the college. As he watches the student population grow, he notices its increasing diversity. "Our attraction to foreign students adds another dimension to the student body. Improving the learning experience and success of our students are vital to our success. Our students are hard working. Many fund their education themselves. Our alumni, those who have already passed through our doors, form the identity of our department and are the spokesmen and women of its future. They are our community's future business leaders."

With productive and caring faculty, students with a strong work ethic and a history of partnership within Chicago's business community, the CBA's accounting department is poised to continue its trajectory of academic success and its development of Chicago's future business leaders.
