The following are some things the mentor should DO in the mentoring relationship. You need to become familiar with your mentee's personal goals, talents, and developmental needs. You need to devote time and energy to the relationship, form a strong emotional bond. The most important factor in mentoring is the mentor's willingness to give time and attention to the mentee. You accept great responsibility in this close, trusting relationship. Pitfalls can be averted by honest, open communication that establishes ground rules and clarifies the concerns of the mentor and the mentee.

- Inspire your mentee
- Create an atmosphere of trust and friendship conducive to a positive mentoring relationship.
- Set aside time for the mentoring process and keep all mentee appointments.
- Display professional behavior and dress.
- Establish a schedule of meetings and feedback sessions and stick to it.
- Establish specific goals
- Be positive, enthusiastic, and supportive.
- Be a good listener and take your mentee seriously.

- Don't over-advise.
- Don't cancel appointments last minute.
Suggested Events:
- A Job Shadowing Day (The mentee will be able to go through a day at work with the client)
- A networking event (an event with the clients' firm where the mentee can be introduced to your firm's culture and environment)
- A Mock Interview and Resume review session
- Attend an Accounting Club Event (social or professional)
- Regular activity report (Event agreed upon between mentor and mentee)
